This figure "fig1-2.png" is available in "png"" format from: This figure "fig1-3.png" is available in "png"" format from: This figure "fig1-4.png" is available in "png"" format from: This figure "fig1-5.png" is available in "png"" format from: This figure "fig1-6.png" is available in "png"" format from: This figure "fig1-7.png" is available in "png"" format from: Abstract Chiral symmetry breaking parameters are calculated in quenched SU(2) lattice gauge theory and with Abelian gauge elds projected in maximal Abelian gauge and in eld strength gauge. Maximal Abelian gauge projected elds lead to chiral condensate values which are quite similar to those of the full nonabelian theory. Pseudoscalar and vector meson correlators are calculated and found to be reproduced by the use of maximal Abelian gauge elds for small quark masses. In eld-strength gauge, Abelian-projected elds give a chiral condensate which closely resembles the results of strongly coupled (< 1) gauge theory: the chiral condensate is insensitive to and quark mass and hence violates scaling badly.
